Martin Higgins is a Director of MW Acoustic Consultants, a qualified acoustician and Associate Member of the Institute of Acoustics (IOA). In 2024 he independently researched and published the most comprehensive noise assessment of uncovered outdoor padel courts with academic oversight of the IOA.  This research was incorporated into training programmes developed for the CIEH (Chartered Institute of Environmental Health) to which was subsequently invited to present the findings.

The research constructed a model which allows noise propagating from a padel court to be accurately predicted in line with current UK planning guidance. It has also assessed the major types impact noise created from a court, in terms of composition and frequency and benchmarked it to tennis. This allows a more robust investigation on the impact of padel noise pertaining to the context of the site, which is often a part of the planning process.
